On Friday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered to hand over the girl to her parents Mehdi Kazmi and Saima Kazmi, in a case related to the kidnapping of minor girl ‘D’. The SHC granted ‘temporary custody’ on the security bonds of Rs1 million.
Last year in April, the minor girl had gone from Karachi to Lahore to get married to a man named Zaheer allegedly. However, her father, Syed Mehdi Kazmi, challenged the wedding under the Child Marriage Act.
Alhumdulillah after 7-month-long battle today victim’s child is finally going home. She unequivocally informed Hon’ High Court that she wants to reside with her parents. There are many lessons to be learned from this case & reforms are needed to curb child marriages.
